I was returning from Aviemore about a month ago. As usual, on the way home I pick up all dead animals off the road, and put them on the grass at the side. One rabbit was still breathing, but you could hear the blood noise as it breathed heavily.
I could not leave it there, so I decided to wrap it up in my jacket and take it home. I put it under the bedroom dressing table space where the chair was, with the jacket. The rabbit slept all through. I checked on it and, it looked a lot better. I thought nice one it seems to have got better.
I put a bowl of water, some grass next to the rabbit. I was going to let the rabbit back into the wild on Monday, just to make sure.
But when I checked on it again, the whole coat of the rabbit was wet. It started to look bad. The rabbit was breathing heavily, and I panicked. I tried to find someone who knew about wild rabbits and I found someone in Perth.
She told me to put the rabbit in a box outside, and find some straw.
I was upset, couldn’t stop crying on the phone.
I got hold of a lady whom I knew about straw, and she had some, which was from her pet rat. I ran back, and noticed the rabbit was dead. I got so upset. I hoped to save one rabbit. So the next week, finally I buried it next to the other rabbit I found on the road from Inverness.
If anyone cares for animals as much as me, as sees a rabbit neglected or in stress, please contact this lovely lady.

FIFE RABBIT RESCUE, LOVELY LADY
About a month later, I could not get to sleep. It was 3 am in the morning. I let the dogs out in garden for a last toilet. I called them in, but no answer. I called again, usually you see Willow first. I nearly panicked, thought Willow might to taking a fit. She seems to take one, when in the back garden. I am positive next door is haunted, because the old ladies brother was always doing the garden, I heard before he died. One morning she looked across and she looked frightened. She moved away from the direction of the garden, over to the fence opposite. Strange, eh!!!
But suddenly Moss ran in with dirty paws looking pleased with himself, and Willow came in after, both wagging tails looking pleased. Willow had something hanging from her mouth. I went to see what it was, I had a closer looked, not sure, got closer, and then slowly picked it off,
“Agghhh!!!!!!! Screech!!!!!!!!” It looked like part of the rabbit.
I freaked out and ran out the back garden, and there you saw the big hole in the garden. The compost looked everywhere. I would say Moss, must have spent time digging this hole, about 2 feet down. |Yuk!!!! I had to quickly try and put all soil back in, well, what I could find. I couldn’t see rabbit, so it must still be in the hole, think, because the bag was still at the bottom.
There I was, outside the back garden at 3.30am one knees, putting soil and compost back into the hole. I had to get the spade to dig some extra soil, to fill it in.
If any neighbour saw this, what would they be thinking, seeing this female on her knees at 3.30am in back garden, digging and filling in this hole.
Geeh!!!! What a thought, I was going to say I would be the first psychopath in Fort William. But somehow I feel, I wouldn’t be the first 20th.
