I was driving back home from a show in Inverness, 28th April 2007, As I came out, 3 miles out, at the side of my eye, I saw something move on the other side of the road. I reversed back, and saw a poor rabbit trying to crawl off the road, it broke my heart. I picked it up, and I lay my jacket on the floor of the front seat, and put the rabbit on it to sleep, and took it all the way home. Whilst at petrol station, I was thinking what to do. Take it home, feed the rabbit and hope it gets better by time. But the rabbit had blood on nose and was breathing heavy. So I decided to phone Chris the Vet, this was 11.45pm. He suggested taking it over and he will look at it.
He was examining the rabbit, and gave bad news. The back end had no feeling whatsoever, he told me the back was broken also. He said he doesn't like this either, animals being hit on the road. I am not saying the rest, you can guess. But I wonder. If the rabbit was meant to be dead, would he not have been? If I had taken it home, would the rabbit have improved, does a bone not mend together naturally, as long as it was resting?
Monday I picked the rabbit up at vets, and buried him/her in my back garden, under the tree. My 2 dogs, Moss, Willow and myself, said a prayer for the rabbit. Hoped it's in a better life than this one. Humans don't really care.Do they |
